Payment Methods Outside of Stripe

Hi Copilot,

I have mentioned this before but I really think that there needs to be a rework to the billing module. Currently, I believe you are relying on Stripe to handle all payments, but there needs to be a way to easily instruct clients who may want to use payments outside of Stripe to pay.

For examples, what if a client wants to pay cash? What if a client wants to Venmo? Or Interac E-Transfer (Canada)? There is no ability to add instructions and or notify the sender that money has been received.

I was looking very hard for a platform that has it right when it comes to their invoicing and billing module and I finally found one called “Unscripted Photographers”.

They also have multiple options to be able to pay, and only have Stripe as an option. Outside of Stripe, you can write your own descriptions for e-transfers, Venmo, and other cash/digital cash sending methods.

Their app is free and I highly suggest someone on the Dev team create an account and test the implementation for the billing module on Unscripted Photographers as I think they get it 100% right and I would love to see Copilot produce and implement this in the future.

Copilot touts itself as the most modular and most flexible platform, but I think the billing module lacks the same flexibility that some of the other modules provide.

The lack of flexibility of the billing module in Copilot is currently holding me back from enabling the billing module for clients.

Hi @Andrew_Lowe!

We truly appreciate your feedback and the example provided. Our billing engineering team is definitely working on other ways to accept payment outside of Stripe, but I don’t have an ETA on when we will be able to expand our offering.

We have recently added Google Pay and Apple Pay to expand payment options for clients. Currently for cash or other external payments, you would have to keep track of cash receipts, but you can create an invoice, mark it as paid, and add details in the memo so your client will still have a receipt in the portal, if this is helpful!

I’ve submitted your feedback to our product and engineering teams and we plan to offer more flexible billing in the future :slightly_smiling_face: Thanks again!
